Syria’s shining lights

In 2011, in the midst of the humanitarian crisis that resulted from the violence that hit northern Syria, a group of young people got together to answer the question: how can we help make people’s lives even a little bit easier in all this suffering?
After raising what funds they could, they gathered food baskets for the families most in need, and tried to include whatever they could think of that would help people go from one hard day to the next. With the baskets ready to distribute and volunteers on board, a bomb hit the building, destroying everything.
And so they started again.
Food baskets were compiled and distributed – and then they kept going. This is the story of how our local partner organisation, Violet, was born: a team of good people whose mission it is to make the oppressed and needy around the world happy. To protect people from exploitation, and to stand with the poorest and most destitute, for a decent life.
Over the years, the organisation has grown, working with numerous global humanitarian partners as they drive many different programs, from education and health to community building and water and sanitation. Violet’s work relies on a team of young people who are driven by love and faith.
Haya is one of those people.

She is a dedicated protection officer at Violet and has spent countless years committed to safeguarding and empowering children in some of Syria's most challenging circumstances. Her journey began with a passion for creating safe spaces for children, where they could heal, grow, and reclaim their sense of normalcy amid the hardships of conflict. Over the years, she has become a beacon of hope for many families, tirelessly working to advocate for the rights and well-being of vulnerable children.

Today, Haya's mission has expanded to promoting civil peace across Syria. She travels to various governorates, engaging directly with communities to foster dialogue, mutual understanding, and unity. Haya leads workshops and community meetings that inspire collective action, bringing people together to rebuild trust and collaboration.
Her efforts aim not only to heal the scars of war but to sow seeds of peace and hope for a brighter future.
Sahel is another young person making a difference at Violet.

As a passionate volunteer and a rising local influencer, he is redefining the way youth engagement and community impact are perceived in Syria. Known for his creative and innovative approach, Sahel has spearheaded numerous initiatives that address pressing social issues while uplifting the spirits of his community. From organising educational programs and environmental campaigns to leveraging social media platforms to amplify local stories, Sahel’s work resonates deeply with people from all walks of life.

His ability to connect with the younger generation and inspire action has made him a pivotal figure in Violet's mission. Through his unique blend of dedication and creativity, Sahel is not only making a tangible difference but is also empowering others to do the same. Whether it's through his heartfelt interactions on the ground or his engaging content online, Sahel embodies the resilience and potential of Syria's youth.

Together, Haya and Sahel represent the heart and soul of Violet’s mission – working tirelessly to restore peace, hope, and a sense of community in Syria.
Their combined efforts remind us that even in the face of adversity, individuals have the power to inspire change and transform lives.
